The Coosa Trail is south of the Pinhoti Trail in the Coosa Wildlife Management Area. It is an east-west trail and most of it is not a part of the future route connecting the present south end of the Pinhoti Trail at Flagg Mountain with the northern terminus of the Florida Trail and the Alabama Trail in the Conecuh National Forest, sometimes known as the Eastern Continental Trail. The Coosa Trail is included on this page because the same people work on it and it is part of the same larger project of establishing the Alabama portion of an interconnected interstate hiking trail network.

Kent C, Edwin M and others (I don't know who joined them) met at the Coosa WMA check-in station to begin work on the Coosa Trail. Edwin brought his DR mower which is an extremely powerful machine and will cut saplings. I'm sure he made good use of it.

John C and I bought ten 6 foot 4X4 posts and delivered them to Pete M who will put our AHTS signs on them for posting at the beginning and end of the trails we maintain. These signs identify the trail maintaining organization and have our website on them. They can aid in the reporting trail conditions to AHTS by hikers using the trails.
Rick painting yellow blazes in the Coosa Wildlife Management Area
November 5, 2014
In the afternoon we drove to a location known locally as double-bridges where a trailhead parking area is stationed. We painted our yellow blazes on trees and walked a short distance into the woods before coming out on a gravel road which is part of the Coosa Trail. We cleared the trail up to this point.
Rick G went to Home Depot and picked up six 8' landscape logs which were cut to 6' 8" and met John coming in from Birmingham. Rick and John went back to the Coosa Trail and planted five posts along the road walk near the double bridges trailhead. They painted blazes on the posts to guide hikers along the road. They also added blazes to a few trees. Hikers should be able to follow the correct roads to get them back into the woods and onto the trail.

Kent and Angel C prepared a fantastic meal to feed a bunch of hungry trail crew members past and present. While Angel worked in the kitchen, Kent smoked ribs, chicken and Conecuh sausage in his smoker in the garage. Those present included our president, Callie T, her husband, Craig, and daughter, Scarlet. John O came by with his girlfriend, Bekka. Joe and Linda, Hayward and Karin W, Edwin, Durwin J, Larry W, John C, Rick G, Sandy (Angel's sister), and family members enjoyed good company and great food.
Day 5 (11/7/14)
We had an eight man crew including John O, Andy B, Bob D, John, Edwin M, Kent C, Tim E and Rick G. Rick arrived with Biscuits with egg, cheese & ham or bacon or sausage and we enjoyed a quick breakfast before starting work.
We moved along at a steady pace and extended the trail ever closer to the old CCC road. It was a cool fall day in a forest of changing leaf color. The view of Weogufka Creek from a high knoll is breathtaking.
Roots and rocks were our worst nightmare as we carved out a hiking trail on the steep sides of ravines. We far exceeded Kent's expectations by doubling the length of trail he thought we would do. I would guess that we did 1 1/2 miles in four days. What made this possible was the large number of volunteers who came out to help. Thank you volunteers! You made us all proud of what we could do with the best of intentions of volunteers.
Rick
Many Thanks to you, Rick G, for all the time and money you have given to the Trail work. Also many thanks to Kent & Angel C for putting up Edwin & me and feeding all of us. Y'all are a very generous. John C
