| John and I went to visit his mother in Huntsville, Alabama, and to hike on Monte Sano and other nearby hiking areas. We stopped at a Benedictine Monastary, the Saint Bernard Abbey. There we saw the Ave Maria Grotto. In the early 1900s Brother Joeseph Zoettl made all kinds of miniature religious scenes with concrete and other durable materials. As people visited and became fascinated with the products of his hobby, they began to send him glass jars, marbles, and other items he used in the miniatures. These are just a few of the many models he made. |
